Release

Following the indictment of Dr Raouf Jamai, head of the pharmacy service of the Maternity and Neonatal Center of Tunis for manslaughter in the case of the death of premature newborns in the neonatal service, we would like to express:

            -  Our solidarity with our colleague whose competence and integrity are not to be demonstrated,

            -  Our solidarity with the families of the victims,

            -  Our confidence in Tunisian justice,

            -  Our total refusal to place the responsibility for this tragedy on our colleague who was not responsible for the preparation room for parenteral nutrition bags incriminated in the death of newborns and who despite this notified the authorities by several letters on shortcomings at the level of this unit

            -  Our concern to see other health professionals assume the consequences of the lack of human and material resources at the level of public health structures.

We insist, in this context, on the necessity and the urgency of the concretization of the bill on medical liability.

In addition, we call on the authorities to work to put in place a health system reform project in collaboration with the various ordinal and union structures and learned societies that represent medical and paramedical personnel in order to enable them to exercise their profession. in compliance with standards for the good of the patient.

The STBC President

Prof Manel Chaabane
